Ms. Jacqueline Ng, a co-founder of Big Bad Wolf Books Sale, shares how they started as a small bookstore in their neighborhood mall in Malaysia. Their journey begins with a mission in mind to increase English Literacy, reading, and comprehension among Malaysians. While she emphasized the beauty of a book, that can be an escape to reality, it could also be one of those important tools that can help a child learn.

And with that, they have three things in mind to promote their reading advocacy: (1) To give cheap and affordable prices. (2) By obtaining the books, they want to change the mindset of a child in regards to reading and (3) They want to empower reading as a lifelong goal.

Last year, with their 10th anniversary along with 10 countries, they are proud to announce that they sold more than 20 million books. Even though this is already a huge success, Ms. Ng perceived this as only the beginning of their journey. With the new decade entering, their plan to have joint ventures in U.A.E., Africa, etc. is expected in a foreseeable future.

One of the things that she shared during the press conference is that even though Africa is not an easy country to enter, they are hoping to enter the territory to spread the love of literature and to educate more children through reading. And with them coming to the Philippines this year, Big Bad Wolf Books is bringing a huge range of titles from 17,000 to 33,000 this 2020.

One of the expectations regarding this sale is that there will be crazy deals for the first time. Selected titles will go as low as Php 60.00!

“Doing good is not enough, we need to do good together to do greater things.” – Gawad Kalinga Executive Director Luis Oquiñena

Together with Gawad Kalinga, they are working to fight illiteracy in the Philippines. Aside from establishing a library in Davao, they were able to donate books in Davao, Cebu, and Aparri in North. They will also distribute books in Sulu, and Marawi soon. Next Year, they are planning to build 24/7 Libraries as a stepping stone to a movement that aims to end poverty by first restoring the dignity of the poor through education and other means. The value of these books will go beyond their prices. Hopefully, people will appreciate this advocacy to raise the new generation of Filipinos.

Ang bawat libro ay pagkakataon ng pag asa.” – Gawad Kalinga Executive Director Luis Oquiñena

Although there are a lot of things going in the Philippines – given with the recent Taal Eruption in Batangas, and the current coronavirus hysteria that is happening today, they wanted to believe in one thing. That whatever may happen in this world, we should move forward and hope that this event will be a chance to uplift the spirits of the Filipinos and uprise our mindsets from the recent news.
